Comparison of different Student Mags

College Life

  • The magazine is issued in Septermber 2008
  • The target audience of the magazine would be the teachers, students, parents and the 'friends' of the college
  • Highlights the success of the previous year ( exam success, ccf inspection and college development plan)
  • Informs the audience on the new staff joining the college and new head boy and girl.
  • Includes different events and activities which the school had undertaken the previous year ( element picnincs, midsummer festival and poetry prom)
  • As St. Edmunds is a boarding school, there are couple of articles concentrating on boarders trips and activities,which include trips to Cambridge, Stevenage, Paintballing and Wake Boarding.
  • St Edmunds Sport section- includes sports in the range athletics and cricket up to scuba diving.
  • Prep School events
As the tagret audience is very wide, as the result, different types of arguments are included. Ranging from strong academic up to articles written by the students.

Common Sense

  • Issued in march 2006
  • Living it up in Luton- articles include on where the students should go out. Best bites of.. Pubs n Clubs
  • Consequences of drinking and smoking in order to infrorm the students in order to be very careful.
  • Many articels are aimed who concerned about the unhealthy lifestyle- articles 'Weight a Minute' and 'Anorexia'
  • The students had used serveys by asking their friends-'How much do you expect to be earning in 10 years'

  • Many articles about humour in order to cheer up the audience- articles 'Comic Relief'
  • Careers Fair- concerned about the students future
  • Diffrents facts and quotes used ny the students- 'Gareth Facts' and 'Your Messages...'
  • Awareness and impacts of Cancer
  • Informing about future events and parties being held at the College
Differences and Similarities between the magazines

Content
College Life- academicaly focused in promote the school and it services
Common Sense- very informative. especially in order to give awareness to the students of drugs and alcohol
Student ID- less formal as the articles had been written by the students

College Life- wide range of audience- parents, students, potential parents and students, friends of the college
Common Sense- sixth form students

College Life- wide range of pictures used, very good quality as taken by the professional
Common Sense- picture style very similar to Student ID, the pictures had been taken from internet
Student ID-less pictures used but also taken from other resources eg. internet
